The new Prius is based on the latest 2016 specification Toyota hybrid and has a mid mounted Toyota RV8-K engine. Built to the JAF GT300 the Prius takes advantage of a loophole allowing cars built before a certain date to have a totally free engine position. Cars built around models introduced after the start of the 2016 Super GT season will have to retain the original engine position as is the case with other cars in the class built to the GTA-MC or GT3 regulations.

The hybrid system on the Prius remains as it did on the old version of the car, using modified production car components.
