The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X is the tenth and final generation of the Lancer Evolution, a sports sedan produced by Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors.

By September 2005, Mitsubishi introduced a concept version of the next-generation Evolution at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show named the Concept-X, designed by Omer Halilhodžić at the company’s European design centre.

Mitsubishi later unveiled a second concept car, the Prototype-X, at the 2007 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

The Lancer Evolution X sedan features a newly designed 4B11T 2.0L turbocharged all-aluminium inline-4 GEMA engine. Power and torque vary depending on the market, but all versions produce at least 280 PS. The American market version received slightly more power, while UK models were reworked by Mitsubishi UK under the FQ badge with outputs ranging between 300 hp and 360 hp.

Two versions of the car were offered in the U.S. market. The Lancer Evolution MR came with a 6-speed Twin Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST), while the GSR version featured a 5-speed manual transmission. The car also introduced Mitsubishi’s S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) four-wheel drive system using advanced torque vectoring technology.

The Evolution X also featured Mitsubishi’s six-speed SST dual-clutch automatic transmission with steering-mounted magnesium alloy shift paddles, replacing the previous Tiptronic automatic system. A five-speed manual gearbox remained available as an alternative. The car also incorporated Mitsubishi’s next-generation RISE safety body structure.

The Evolution X went on sale in Japan in October 2007, followed by North America and Europe in 2008. Later updates included the MR-Touring model with premium interior upgrades such as leather seats and a moonroof.

In 2014, Mitsubishi announced that production of the Lancer Evolution would end after the 2015 model year.
