The Peugeot 208 GTi was introduced in September 2012 as the performance version of the first-generation 208. It was first shown as a concept model in March 2012. Based on the three-door 208, the GTi weighs 1,160 kg, making it 90 kg lighter than the 207 GTi.

Compared to the standard 208, the front and rear tracks were widened by 10 mm and 20 mm. The car comes with 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with 205/45 tires and larger 302 mm front disc brakes cooled by functional vents. The suspension and steering were also upgraded for improved handling.

The 208 GTi uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four Prince engine producing 197 bhp and 275 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. This engine is also shared with the Peugeot RCZ, several Mini models, and various Citroën vehicles.
